Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara is a wonderful place to volunteer and to train. There is a very respectful vibe to the dojo and the community is very friendly. As an intern I was able to learn alot from Lia-Sensei and greatly enjoyed working with her as she was very understanding and was a great boss/instructor to learn from. The intro packages are structured to be welcoming and challenge you regardless of your previous experience. The classes do a good job catering to individual needs and I look forward to seeing how Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara continues to grow in the years to come!

I cannot recommend this dojo highly enough. Lia Suzuki, head instructor, is one of the most talented Aikidoka I have ever had the pleasure of training with and her classes are phenomenal. She does not teach dogma or rely on willing, pliable training partners. She is the real deal.

I took one of the intro classes while I was doing an internship at the dojo. It was quite a workout, so I recommend trying Aikido even if you haven't done so before.

Absolutely wonderful dojo and community. Very large mat space, and friendly pepole. Excellent and hard work training under Suzuki Sensei as always when I visit, and I'd encourage anyone to go train there. I wish I could make it to Santa Barabara more often just to train with them all.

Working at Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara introduced me to something very new. I have never heard of Aikido before beginning my internship here and have never done any form of martial arts. Therefore, my first class definitely took me out of my comfort zone. I felt very new and uninformed about everything. However, everyone was so inclusive and willing to help that my first Aikido class was a positive experience. It was interesting to see the interaction with everyone on the mat. I slowly came to see that Aikido was not just about learning to fall, but also the physical communication between partners. I enjoyed getting to experience at least this little bit of Aikido because it wasn’t like anything else I have ever tried.
