Very cool place. The owner cooked my breakfast and treated me like he knew me forever. Very good hospitality. The Cajun. ;)

We were on our way back to Houston from Tampa when I became ill. We knew we were going to have to stop for the night, or I would get worse. I have a lot of allergies and I also have asthma, and a lot of cleaners as well as dust and perfumes will set me off. Because of this, it's hard to find a hotel for me to stay at. We started googling reviews of places nearby us, and we stopped at a Candlewood first. We asked the man at the front desk if we could go in to the room to see if my allergies would be set off by it. The guy was very rude about it, but he allowed us to go in to the room. Sure enough, it was heavy with perfumes and cleaners, so I couldn't stay. I was so desperate and sick. I was about to pay $130.00 for that Candlewood room. We found a place with the best reviews in a town I'd never heard of, Defuniak Springs. No one was at the desk when we got there, so we called the number. The owner was at home and drove right over to get us a room. Quite the different service from the Candlewood. We only paid $105.00 for the room. That was a steal for the area's going rates and it was definitely much nicer than the other nearby hotels/motels. The place is historic, but clean. My allergies and asthma had zero problems. I woke up and had a wonderful french toast breakfast. We slept in so I could feel better and had to get back on the road. The place was so unique that we hated to leave it. I wish it was closer so that I could go back there. This little place should be putting the others out of business. And just so you know, I'm an extremely picky germophobe with an even pickier nose for allergies. We're still telling others about our stay there in the small town of Defuniak Springs. Thank you for your cleanliness and hospitality.

The new sandwich cafe has really great food and excellent service. There are very few good lunch places around DeFuniak Springs, this one should definitely be on your list as a weekly lunch spot.
